Why take my family to Epic Universe in July despite the summer heat? Two reasons: it’s summer break and this is Florida’s newest Universal Studios park. The temperature won’t stop us—especially when we come prepared.
As a Florida native, I pack efficiently for hot park days. Here’s what I put in my daypack to make a summer visit to Epic Universe comfortable and fun for the whole family.
Harry Potter Interactive Wands

Start with the fun stuff. If your family already owns interactive Harry Potter wands from other Universal parks, bring them—the older wands work in Epic Universe too. You can buy a new wand at the Ministry of Magic, but reusing beloved wands adds extra magic to the day.
Sunscreen

Shade is limited right now, so sunscreen is essential. Apply a spray or lotion on arms and legs and use a stick for the face to avoid irritation. Reapply throughout the day—especially after water rides or heavy sweating.
Cooling Towels

Cooling towels are a simple, effective way to stay comfortable. Wet one, drape it around your neck, and enjoy immediate relief. They’re lightweight, reusable all day, and especially helpful during long lines or outdoor shows.
Drawstring Backpack

For a one-day visit, a full-sized backpack isn’t necessary. A roomy drawstring bag fits snacks, a water bottle, sunscreen, and a power bank. Choose one with wider straps for comfort and a zippered pocket for small essentials. A compact bag also fits easily into lockers for rides that require leaving belongings behind.
Battery Power Bank

Your phone will get heavy use for wait times, mobile ordering, photos, and the park app. A reliable power bank keeps devices charged so you can stay connected all day. A model that plugs directly into the phone can be easier to use on the go without juggling cables.
Water Bottle

Bring a refillable (non-glass) water bottle. You can refill for free at Coca-Cola Freestyle machines around the park. Bottles with flavor cartridge options are a hit with kids and encourage hydration throughout the day.
Snacks

Theme park food is part of the fun, but having non-perishable snacks prevents hanger and helps through long queues. Pack items that won’t melt or get crushed, such as pretzels, dried fruit, trail mix, and nuts.
Handheld Fan

A compact handheld fan can make a big difference. Many are rechargeable, double as small flashlights, and some models even offer USB charging for phones. They’re great for lines and stroller naps alike.
Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a must in a park with limited shade. Choose comfortable, UV-protective lenses and durable plastic frames you won’t stress about losing during rides or while chasing after kids.
Power-Up Bands

Interactive Power-Up Bands enhance Super Nintendo World experiences with challenges and sounds. If you already own one from another Universal park it will work here, and they’re worth considering for added gameplay and souvenirs.
Lets-a Go!

With these essentials and a positive attitude, you’ll be ready for a memorable day at Epic Universe—even in July heat. Did I miss anything? Share your must-haves in the comments.
