I’m not a big drinker, but I enjoy a specialty cocktail now and then. These Baby Guinness shots are perfect for St. Patrick’s Day or any celebration. They’re simple, elegant, and flavorful enough that I often sip them slowly rather than toss them back.

What makes them so appealing is how effortless they are: only two ingredients, minimal assembly, and a delightful contrast of flavors. The blend of coffee liqueur and Irish cream is a classic pairing that works beautifully in many cocktails.

They also look adorable—little miniature pints that mimic a real Guinness. Lining up a tray of these for guests always creates a fun presentation and starts conversations.

FAQ: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE

CAN I USE A DIFFERENT ALCOHOL?

For the classic Baby Guinness, use a coffee liqueur like Kahlua and an Irish cream such as Baileys. That said, you can experiment with flavored coffee liqueurs and flavored Irish creams for interesting variations.

Suggested coffee liqueur flavors: mint, vanilla, chili chocolate, or salted caramel.

Suggested Irish cream flavors: almond, salted caramel, strawberries & cream, espresso, red velvet, apple pie, cherry, vanilla cinnamon, s’mores, or vanilla mint.

ARE BABY GUINNESS SHOTS STRONG?

Yes — they are made from two liqueurs with no mixer, so they have noticeable alcohol content. However, the sweet, creamy flavors often make them go down smoothly; sip slowly if you want to savor them.

CAN THEY BE MADE AHEAD?

No. These are best assembled right before serving so the layered look stays intact. Preparing chilled bottles in advance will speed service.

DO I HAVE TO USE A SPOON?

Yes. Pouring the Irish cream slowly over the back of a spoon creates the floating layer that gives Baby Guinness its signature appearance.

HOW TO STORE:

Because these shots take seconds to assemble, they don’t require storage. Keep your Kahlua and Baileys chilled and build shots just before serving for best results.

DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Use a spoon narrower than the glass opening to create a clean float.
  • Chill both the coffee liqueur and Irish cream before serving.
  • Because each shot takes moments to assemble, storing already-made shots isn’t necessary.
  • Try different flavored liqueurs to customize the drink.
