Simply seasoned, crisp on the outside and tender inside, these air fryer sweet potato cubes are one of my favorite quick side dishes. They take very little hands-on time and deliver a flavorful, nutritious accompaniment for weeknight dinners or holiday meals.

🍠 What Makes This Recipe So Good
- Perfect texture and simple seasoning. A light coating of oil and a few pantry spices give the cubes great flavor while the air fryer produces a crisp exterior and a soft interior.
- Fast and low-effort. After peeling, cutting, and seasoning, the air fryer does the rest. You only need to shake the basket once halfway through—no complicated steps and minimal cleanup.
👩🏼🍳 Chef’s Tips
- Customize the seasonings. Match the flavors to your main dish: add smoked paprika or cayenne for heat, or a sprinkle of cinnamon and brown sugar for a sweeter option.
- Cook in batches for larger quantities. Avoid overcrowding the basket so hot air can circulate and crisp every cube evenly.

Ingredients
- 1 large sweet potato approximately 8 ounces
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (avocado oil, olive oil, etc.)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
Equipment
- vegetable scrub brush (optional)
- clean dish towel or paper towels
- potato peeler
- cutting board
- sharp knife
- large mixing bowl
- silicone spatula
- air fryer
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- Rinse and scrub 1 large sweet potato under running water to remove dirt. Dry with a towel, then peel completely.
- On a cutting board, cut the peeled sweet potato into bite-sized cubes, trying to keep pieces uniform for even cooking.
- Place the cubes in a large bowl. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon neutral oil, then add ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper, and ½ teaspoon salt. Toss until evenly coated.
- Transfer the seasoned cubes to the air fryer basket, spreading them in a single layer.
- Air fry for 6 minutes, remove the basket and shake to turn the cubes, then return the basket to the air fryer.
- Air fry another 6 minutes, then check for doneness. Continue cooking in 60-second increments until the cubes are tender inside and crisp outside.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve warm.
Notes
- Servings: The number of servings depends on sweet potato size and how you cut the cubes. You can prepare multiple sweet potatoes but cook them in batches to avoid overcrowding the basket.
- Cook times: Times vary between air fryer models. Watch the cubes closely toward the end to avoid overcooking—overcooked cubes can become dry or burnt.
