Ingredients used to make a fresh fruit salad with honey lime poppy seed dressing

Ingredients For Your Fresh Fruit Salad

Strawberries: Choose berries that are deep red, free of soft spots, and have fresh green caps.

Pineapple: Precutted fresh pineapple chunks save time and work well in this salad.

Mandarin oranges: Fresh mandarins offer the best flavor. Peel and segment them before adding to the bowl.

Kiwi: Look for kiwis that are mostly firm but yield slightly to gentle pressure.

Blueberries: Use about 1 to 1½ cups of blueberries; add them last so they hold their shape.

Limes: You’ll need 3 limes for the dressing.

Honey: Sweetens and balances the lime in the dressing.

Poppy seeds: A small amount adds texture and visual interest — about ½ teaspoon for the dressing.

How To Make Fresh Fruit Salad

1. Prep the fruit. Slice the strawberries, dice the pineapple and kiwi, and peel and segment the mandarin oranges. Combine these with the blueberries in a large bowl.

2. Prepare the dressing. Whisk together the juice of 3 limes, 3 teaspoons of honey, and ½ teaspoon poppy seeds in a small bowl until combined.

3. Toss and serve. If serving immediately, pour your desired amount of dressing over the fruit and toss gently until evenly coated. If making ahead, cover and chill the fruit for at least 1 hour; toss with dressing just before serving.

This salad is best served cold. Chill the fruit or the finished salad before serving for the most refreshing result.

Tips For The Best Fruit Salad

  • Use ripe fruit. Ripe produce provides the best flavor and texture; avoid overripe pieces that can become mushy.
  • Add dressing at the last minute. To prevent sogginess, dress the salad right before serving or let guests add dressing to individual portions.
  • Adjust dressing quantity easily. For a simple ratio, use 1 lime, 1 teaspoon honey, and 1/8 teaspoon poppy seeds per small batch of dressing.
